Sewing Workshop: Threads of Tradition and Skill in White Center

This July, the HUB hosted a special two-day sewing workshop, blending cultural heritage with practical skills in partnership with elders from the Cambodian American Community Council of Washington (CACCWA).
Participants dove into the rich history of Khmer textiles, learning about traditional patterns and techniques that have been passed down through generations. The workshop also focused on basic sewing and clothing mending skills, empowering attendees to repair and create their own garments with confidence.
A highlight of the event was making personalized needle pouches- a practical project that combined creativity with utility. Between sewing sessions, participants took breaks to learn Khmer dance moves, adding a lively and cultural touch to the experience.
The workshop was a beautiful fusion of tradition, skill-building, and community, leaving everyone inspired to carry forward these timeless crafts.
