White Center 9th Annual Spring Clean – Saturday, May 19, 2012
“Clean streets, parks, schools, and public spaces means a safer White Center”
(White Center, WA) – Spring Clean 2012 is right around the corner and The White Center community will once again work together to do some Spring Cleaning in the neighborhood. Youth and elders, business owners and entrepreneurs, long-time residents and recent homeowners and everyone in between are all welcome to join the volunteer effort that started 10 years ago as an opportunity to improve White Center’s image by cleaning up the physical environment.
“As a resident of White Center for over 15 years, I have always been excited about this signature event for our community,” said Sili Savusa, White Center CDA Executive Director. “Spring Clean is a time for our neighborhoods to show their support of local schools, parks, businesses and public space that we all use and cherish. It is also a reason for people outside of White Center to explore and be a part of this great community.”
In 2011, over 600 volunteers turned out for the Spring Clean event. Some of our projects were mural painting, graffiti removal, litter collections, gardening, and parks clean-up. Volunteers covered 70 neighborhood blocks and completed over 20 individual beautification projects developed by local residents and groups.
Matt Tilton of Tilton Fine Metalsmithing is on a team working to produce this year’s signature project. “Applying my trade in ways that can benefit the community make my job rewarding and this year’s wayfinding sign will be a great addition to the clean-up and beautification work already being done.”
The White Center CDA thanks our sponsors for their contributions to this year’s event: King County Housing Authority, Boeing Employers Credit Union, McClendon’s Hardware, White Center Chamber of Commerce, Seattle Public Utilities, Impact Capital, and the City of Seattle Office of Economic Development.
