Evergreen High School student Alexander Meas, 18, dropped by the office recently. We caught up with him to see what’s up (our side notes are in parentheses).
What brings you into the office?
To turn in papers (King County Food and Fitness Initiative surveys) that you guys need!
What were the surveys for?
The surveys were for the CDA, they were to help better understand what the folks in our community want to improve; or what they have knowledge of…that is what I think at least…(the surveys were for the purpose of finding how the community stays fit, and how health and fitness is a priority to White Center).
How many surveys did you get filled out?
I’m not sure how many surveys I got filled out but I know it must be over 50 because I had a gym full of Evergreen high school students fill out these surveys. (Alex handed us 70+ surveys. Great job Alex!)
Where else do you volunteer? What do you do there?
I used to volunteer with Youth Media Institute, but now I am an intern with them. I am their photographer and logistics worker. So I basically run around doing really random work, and eventually I get to go take pictures at events that are local.
What motivates you to do community work?
Community work is a chance for me to be able to look at something and say “I helped with that”. It’s just a great feeling over all, It’s also a great chance for networking!
What do you think of the White Center CDA?
The White Center CDA is pretty cool. They make you feel really welcomed whenever you see them. I walked into the CDA one time and they were having cake, reminds me of my office! They are great people that do great things. Keep it up you guys!
Any plans for the summer?
I will be working with Youth Media Institute over the summer helping them with the Youth Out Loud class by being a peer mentor. I’m not at all sure what I have planned..but shenanigans will be the word that I will use to predict what my summer with involve.
