During the time it will take you to read this email, 5 women will be affected by domestic violence - that’s 145 people every hour. Sadly, 1 in 4 women will be affected during their lifetime.

But you can help. YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish and Allstate Northwest Region hope you will join us for a special event to recognize Domestic Violence Awareness month.

On Monday, October 24 from 11:30 to 1:00 at YWCA Greenbridge Learning Center you will learn how to approach and talk to a family member, friend or co-worker you suspect is a victim of domestic violence. Learn what you can do.

We have been challenged by The Allstate Foundation to have at least 100 people attend the event. For every attendee, the Foundation will donate $100 to the YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish to fund programs that support domestic violence victims.

Please make sure to take a look at purplepurse.com. Cleverly disguised as an internet store, the site contains information on domestic violence. We will share more about the story of the purple purse at the event. You can show your support by wearing purple and/or bringing a purse to donate. Please use your social media networks to spread the word. On Twitter, follow “@ywcawork” and make sure to use #purplepurse in your tweets.

RSVP today and help end domestic violence.

When: Monday, October 24 11:30 am to 1:00 pm (lunch provided)

Where: YWCA Greenbridge Learning Center
9720 8th Ave. SW, South
Seattle, 98106

Tomorrow’s the big party for White Center, the neighborhood which emerged victorious in our first-ever Snackdown. The 6 p.m. event is a great chance to check out the city’s best ‘hood for eating–and to eat cake, courtesy of party host Full Tilt Ice Cream.

How do you feel about King County and their budget? You still have time to weigh in on the King County Budget.

Community Wide Forums has extended the deadline of the King County Budget Survey: Achieving Sustainability Together to Oct. 23rd. What are your spending priorities for the county? What is your opinion on Metro Transit and other budget issues? Help the county make decision on the budget. This survey takes a high level look at the budget while focusing on Metro Transit. “The key question is how can we create a sustainable budget that avoids ‘crisis mode’ budgeting and maintains vital services?”

Here is a link to comments and thoughts from your neighbors around the county: http://communityforums.org/current-topic-video/#StartComments

You can participate in this online survey until 11:58 PM, this Sunday, October 23.

Share your opinions and raise your voice on your County’s Budget and transportation system.

Countywide Community Forums does not use any tax dollars from the county. It depends solely on the donations from supporters. It is underwritten by Dick’s Drive-In and family.
