Looking for ways to get out and be active as the weather improves here in White Center/Seattle?!?! Check out the Be Active Together Group and all the things they have going on in the month of April!!

This is an exciting time of the year at the CDA because we are announcing our new format, calling for volunteers and projects form the community. This year Spring Clean will span April through August with a huge celebration on September 6th, 2013. We have 5 months throughout the year to ensure the cleanliness and beautification our community. If you have a project that you want to lead or suggest please fill out the Project Proposal Form and email it to Marquise@wccda.org or drop it off at the CDA located at 1615 SW Cambridge St, Seattle, WA 98106. Projects can be done on multiple days if it is a need of the community to be done throughout the months.  If you are interested in volunteering for a particular day please follow the link Volunteer Link to sign-up. You can sign up for as many days as you want.

As projects come in we will be updating our blog, Facebook and Twitter. The Road Map Region Parent Forum will be a place for parents to share their experiences, learn relevant skills and information, and build relationships with communities and schools. Highlights will include:

• Opportunities for meaningful conversations between parents and educators
• Sessions focused on giving parents tangible tools and skills
• Resources to help support students’ education

This is the first time that we are doing a run and walk in White Center and we want to see all of your lovely faces there supporting health and wellness in our community. This is an event that is being organized by former EverGreen High School students with support from the CDA and YES Foundation. Community Summit 2012

If you have not seen it on TV yet check out our commercial for the community summit coming up on Dec.8th. Please registered at the following link “Register Now”.

The White Center Community is coming together to memorialize one our fallen community members on December 1st.  Help is needed to prepare soil and plant flowers in front of Soul’s Kitchen at the corner of 16th and Roxbury (map below). Volunteers can just show up on Saturday around 11 a.m. to lend a hand for this great local tribute.

The memorial was discussed at a community meeting held at Mago Signs Monday night, where 25 or so people got together to honor Margaret, share memories and talk about how best to honor her.

The proposed memorial will include a large boulder with a plaque, surrounded by flowers and plants.

“We welcome any volunteers to please join in with digging out what’s currently there, laying down soil, and planting the new flowers,” Vera said. “We will leave a space for the boulder that will hold the plaque in honor of Margaret. If possible, volunteers should bring work gloves, small shovels, or other things they think might come in handy.”

SAVE THE DATE FOR MEMORIAL UNVEILING DEC. 1
The proposed unveiling of Margaret’s memorial is set for just before the annual White Center Tree Lighting at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 (the tree lighting will take place just across from the memorial site at Veteran’s Triangle Park), so be sure to mark your calendars.
